Mt. Batur Sunrise Trekking

This is the trip most people come to Kintamani for. You meet your guide in the dark, walk up through volcanic sand and rock with a headlamp, and reach the rim in time to watch the sun come up over Lake Batur and Mount Agung. Breakfast is cooked in the summit steam, and there is time to walk the crater afterwards and see the vents up close.

How the trip runs

1. 3:00 AMMeet your guide in Kintamani. Safety briefing, and a headlamp each.
2. 3:30 AMStart walking. Two hours through volcanic sand and rock: steady going, nothing technical.
3. 5:30 AMReach the summit and warm up with a hot drink.
4. 5:45 AMSunrise over Lake Batur, with Mount Agung behind it.
5. 6:15 AMBreakfast: boiled eggs, bread, fruit and hot tea or coffee, some of it cooked in the steam.
6. 7:00 AMWalk around the crater to see the active steam, then start down.
7. 8:30 AMBack at the meeting point.
